Anyone made a false ceiling with cloth?

I live in an old, hot house with high ceilings, and we waste a lot of electricity cooling it in the summer. I had an idea to suspend a cloth (maybe a parachute) false ceiling around the ceiling fan help create a small layer of extra insulation to help keep the cool air from the AC circlating where we’ll feel it.

You didn’t say whether you own the house or not. Have you considered stapling insulation to the ceiling and then installing a drop ceiling. Drop ceiling are not hard to install and add another insulation factor as well. There are some old world designs that would look nice in a home with high ceilings. Installation is very easy, you will need a small laser level, which you can purchase at Home Depot a small one runs about 20.00. Check this out

Actually, these are the nail up ones, so there would be no additional insulation factor there

Drop ceiling tiles are more afforadable and add insulation. On a budget, Home Depot sells the tracts and everything that you need, they sell a varity of panels as well. They sell acustic panels, which are white and add insulation factor, and they sell acrylic panels, some are decorative, some are 2 x 2 and some are 2 x 4, depending on what you would like. Personally, in a kitchen, I would go with 2 x 2.
Here are a few more web sites to explain installation, who knows, after you do one you may find that you have a knack for it!! It pays well, especially in the hotel and restraunt and school industry’s.

Good Luck:-)

I have a ceiling fan that recently started going on and off automatically does anyone know why this is happeni?

The ceiling fan is only about 5 years old. And it is only the light part that is doing it. It will go on automatically in the middle of the night. And sometimes it will just go off for no reason that I am aware of.

The filament in the bulb is broken, replace it, happens on my fans, the filament makes a connection now and again because of the fans vibration.
