What’s the best way of calming a runaway ceiling fan?
Tranquilizer dart. But aim true, you don’t want a blade deflecting the dart and knocking Aunt Velma out for the weekend.
i want to install ceiling fans in my home, but my current light fixtures only have two wires the fans have thre?
i have a red and white wires connected to the light, but, i see a bundle of black wires taped together not hooked to anything. do i use one of these as my ground.the fans i bought have a black, blue, white and green wire i can figure them out but i don’t see a copper ground coming from the ceiling
your red is probably tied into your black wires. for the fixture, tie the blue and black together and hook them up to the red wire. White to white. The black wires in the back are for other outlets or fixtures. dont mess with those and definitely dont use them for a ground. i dont know the answer to that one, maybe you can ground it to the box itself. however, in the same way the blacks are all tied together, the grounds should also all be tied together.
Installing a ceiling fan with a remote in an old house?
I just bought a Hunter Stratford 2. I recently bought a house that was built in 1890. I took down the old fan in the master bedroom. It wasnt working. Just a plain fan no light. The wiring looks very old. The wiring in the ceiling also connects the wall sconce. I also get no power in my outlet unless the light-switch is turned on.
The wiring in the ceiling is thick black and white. There are two white wires and 4 black wires. If certain wires are not connected the whole upstairs will have no power. (and yes maybe i really need an electrician, but thought I would ask her first.) Let me know if you have any advice?
if wiring is black and white wires it,s no problem. you have a group of black and white wires because they continue on to the next power outlet whatever it may be. when you took the old fan down the black wires must have had a short black coming out of the cluster of wires to hook your hot into.the same will be true with the white side. the black side probably has a big red or gray wire nut and the white side with 2 wires will probably have a yellow wire nut.from fan connect the blackwire and the blue wire to the black wire in ceiling box then connect white fan wire to white ceiling box wire. connect green to screw in ceiling box. since you said there was not a red wire you will have to turn fan and light on with remote or your pull chains. you can do this. PS sorry you bought a hunter fan because there one of the bitchier fans to install and still made in indonesia or somewhere like that but you,ll get through it.
