Best way to seal gaps on two sides of bathroom ceiling fan vent. Can see outdoor light and feel cold air.?

gap is on 2 sides of the ceiling vent, between the finished frame inner square of the vent cover. Other 2 sides are tight against the frame. Can see light/feel air because vent opening extends upward through attic to roof.
I’m 65 and disabled; I’ll put duct tape on the gaps until I can afford to have someone come and fix whatever is wrong. Bye.

You should not see light! Where`s your insulation! Crawl up in attic and put some over top of fan. Glue styrofoam against gaps with spray foam, or styrofoam glue. Install fan cover to hold in place.– Then touch up with paint or text. You can buy text. in aerosol can. Let styro repair dry first, remove fan trim, mask fan, spray text.

Go to your local hardware store and buy some expanding sealant. Get the kind you can sand so you can shape and paint it (if neccesary) after it is installed.

If you can see light it sounds like you have more problems than a gap. If the fan is in the wall or in the ceiling you can first seal it with caulking. If the gaps are too large you can get some insulation and "stuff it in the gaps’ then you can try a wrap around trim for the fan. I.E. square four pieces at a 45 degree angle. Then paint to match, or an accent color.
