What is the best way to clean ceiling fans and with what ?

vaccuum first, and then wipe off the blades with any type of cleaner - Pledge, Windex, Amonia & water, 409, dish soap & water, whatever.

In the summer, should my ceiling fan rotate clockwise or counterclockwise? And which direction would this be?
I would like to know which way to turn my fan for the best performence this summer. And if so, should the rotation direction be from a person looking up at the fan or overhead looking down at the fan?
The fan is in a 12′ by 12′ foyer w/ an 18′ ceiling. This area opens into the bedrooms. Even with a fairly large air conditioner, the air upstairs becomes very warm when the outside temperature rises above 70.

It is really very simple. If you can feel the air from the fan, it is going the right way and creating a wind chill factor. If you can’t, it is set to push hot air from the ceiling which is helpful in the winter.
